Reid Fujimoto
Reid Fujimoto (he/him) was born and raised in Aiea, Oahu. He is mixed Kanaka Oiwi and is proud of all of his ethnic backgrounds, accepting and respectful of each culture. From a young age, he discovered a passion for art and recognized its power to emotionally connect people of all backgrounds. He values kindness and is enthusiastic about sharing his creativity with clients, colleagues, and friends. In a world that may feel distorted by negative media and corruption in economic systems, Reid believes in the importance of staying connected to loved ones and being mindful of life’s opportunities to keep oneself at peace.
In 2017, Reid graduated from Iolani School. In 2022, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Minor in Studio Art from Oregon State University. After completion of his undergraduate degree, he moved back to O`ahu to create designs for a local clothing company. With every design, he was motivated by telling a story. He believes art holds great energy, meaning, and part of the soul of the artist. In his art, Reid has incorporated Japanese myths that told impactful life lessons of which he was grateful to learn. One told the story of a koi fish swimming against the current of a stream to reach the mountaintop, a representation of an unwavering attitude towards challenges that interfere with his goals. Being of many cultural backgrounds, Reid deeply understands the importance of inclusion for all, and he’s eager to learn from the histories, traditions, and lived experiences of diverse communities, embracing the unique perspectives they offer.
Currently, Reid is a graduate student pursuing an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Art Therapy Concentration at Caldwell University. Although in the future his journey will be far from home, his spirit is rooted in Hawai`i and channels strength through thoughts of his loved ones. His decision to enter the mental health field originated from his desire to support others, and he noticed art as a therapeutic directive. At Pilina Center for Wellbeing, Reid is excited to surround himself with like minded individuals whom he can learn from.
