Sarah Combs, MPH, MSW, PhD

Sarah Combs (she/her) is a PWC Consultant with over a decade of experience in public health and has worked in a variety of settings including Federally Qualified Health Centers and community-based organizations. Her areas of expertise are around sexual and reproductive health, homelessness, wellness, health promotion programs. She holds a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University, a Masters of Social Work and a PhD in Community Psychology from the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa. Sarah is also an active member of the Sexual and Gender Minorities Workgroup, based in Hawai`i and facilitated by Harm Reduction Services Branch, Hawai'i State Department of Health.

Sarah is a community-based researcher and prioritizes creating lasting, equitable partnerships with her community partners. Throughout her PhD, she focused her work on leading a five-year evaluation of a local shelter and partnered on evaluating a worksite wellness program with a community non-profit. Her dissertation highlights unpacking the relationships between wellness, power, and privilege in a workplace setting. Sarah takes an intersectional and social justice approach to her work, building on the strengths and expertise of her community partners, aiming to balance the power dynamic between researcher and community!

Sarah has published numerous articles on her previous work on a community-based research program in New York, highlighting a partnership between four organizations aiming to understand cancer screening behaviors in 20 communities across Queens.

Sarah is from Alaska, which led to an immense love of being outside, so in her free time, you can find her on Kohelepelepe (Koko Head) or another hiking trail, appreciating the beauty of Hawaiʻi!
