Selah Kone

Selah is a Native Alaskan (Unangan) student and wellbeing advocate. She has lived in Alaska, Washington, Greece, Hawaiʻi, and Arizona. Amidst all of the wonderful places she has lived, she has realized the importance and privilege of learning the stories, histories, traditional cultural knowledge, and practices that have allowed the peoples Indigenous to that land to live well. This has had a great impact on her identity and professional aspirations.

She recently graduated with a BS in psychology from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and hopes to continue her education, aiming to integrate her research on Indigenous models of wellbeing into her graduate studies. It is her ultimate goal to position herself as a spokesperson and researcher driven by community need and believes that Indigenous models of wellbeing are the foundation upon which true health can be built. She aspires to contribute to the integration of traditional wisdom with contemporary practices, fostering holistic wellness in individuals and communities.

Amidst the constant changes of life, Selah tries to incorporate aspects of physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and community wellbeing into each endeavor. She firmly believes that finding a sense of peace and place is important wherever life leads and strives to honor her role as a descendant and future ancestor by caring for herself, her loved ones, and her community wherever she may be. She enjoys spending time on the land, gardening, reading, knitting, and being with family and friends.
